Safety
TerrorWerks is meant to be a fun game. Rules are designed not to restrict but protect the safety of its participants and ensure each player has a good time. In developing these rules, we tried to cover realism, game play and safety.
Weapons and Attacks
TerrorWerks players will utilize safe, low-velocity, spring-driven AirSoft weapons which fire lightweight (~.2 gram) plastic pellets. The game scenario is designed so that all AirSoft weapons fire should be directed at our fully safety-geared actors, but ricochets and other incidents may occur. The only “attacks” directed against players by our actors will be with safe, soft foam-rubber dart weapons or simple touch-taps.
For legal and safety reasons, weapons may not leave the event space. Weapons are to kept with the safety on and with magazines out while in the staging area. Always hold your weapon with your finger off the trigger unless you are ready to fire. Blind firing (sticking your gun out of an area and firing without knowing/seeing where you are aiming) around corners is strictly prohibited! You must have eyes on target before firing. You may not use optics to see around corners and fire. It is very easy to hit someone point blank in the face when doing this. When engaging a target always aim for center mass. Avoid head or groin shots.
During the events you may come across improvised weapons such as hammers, pipes and other similar items. These items are made out of foam rubber and for safety reasons are the only things other than supplied firearms that you may use as weapons. No other object may be used as a weapon. When using these foam weapons all you need to do is lightly tap your target with the weapon. Do not use your full strength! In addition only target center mass such as the chest or arms. Do not aim for the head or groin.
Protective Gear and Clothing
Fully sealed eye protection is REQUIRED and will be provided by the TerrorWerks staff. Impact rated (meets or exceeds ANSI Z97.1 standards) fully sealed eye protection must be worn at all times on the game fields. NO SHOOTING GLASSES or MESH GOGGLES allowed. Players caught in violation of this rule on the field will be removed from the game with no refund given. Protective eyewear brought by players as part of costuming will be evaluated by our safety staff onsite, but if it does not conform to the safety specifications above, it will not be allowed in-game.
No special body protection is required. Clothing that covers bare skin may be desirable. Players will be outfitted with tactical accessories, but these are not required for protection. For a more immersive experience, players are encouraged to bring costuming suitable for the futuristic military scenario – camouflage/ACUs for marines, jumpsuits for engineers/synthetics, etc. Even if you are not costuming for the event, please remember to dress appropriately for a combat simulation – i.e. pants, shorts or comparable vs. dresses, skirts or cloaks.
Rules for Actor Interaction
Our events feature a number of actors that help create a more realistic atmosphere for each event. Some of these will be aliens, zombies, survivors, etc. They are there for you to get an added enjoyment out of our events. We do however ask that you treat them with respect. They are donating their time to make your experience better. When dealing with actors by all means interact with them – talk to them, shout at them, shoot at them. Act how you feel you would in a real world situation. All we ask is that you ask their permission before touching them. Do not touch an actor who says NO. Most are good sports and are willing to be manhandled a bit. Always remember to ask first and treat them with respect.
